ALLEMO - Aerospace Laboratory for Lasers, ElectroMagnetics, and Optics

Texas A&M University College of Engineering

Subscale Atmospheric Facility

80 ft. long, 2 ft. diameter facility

  • Eight 2 ft. diameter, 10 ft. long cylindrical sections
  • Cross flow turbulence and diagnostic observation sections at intermediate locations
  • Heating elements for the generation of buoyancy driven turbulence
  • 2 kW 1.07 μm fiber laser
  • 18-watt 532 nm laser
  • 1 kHz to 60 kHz Femtosecond laser
  • 10 kHz to 1 MHz burst mode lasers

Provides controlled turbulence for aero-optic experiments

Variable atmosphere to simulate high altitude and weather

Advanced diagnostics, stand-off detection

Thermal blooming – simulation of effects of air contaminants – local vehicle exhaust, smoke, etc.

Local guide star development to correct for near field turbulence.
